An Insider’s View on Social Media

Ric Dragon’s organization is DragonSearch, one of the best boutique SMM (social media marketing) and SEO agencies in New York. Ric appeared on the Business901 podcast, Using Lean Thinking in Social Media. He recently authored Social Marketology: Improve Your Social Media Processes and Get Customers to Stay Forever. Below is a transcription of the podcast.

After the podcast Ric and I discussed several things, one of them was about Coca Cola and a recent presentation :

Content marketing as a concept is pretty rich. It really is. We tap into, when you go back to SEO, of how can you be relevant to people, and it’s really about relevance. Then, you bring in the social aspect, and it’s about connectivity. So, we’re juggling relevance and connectivity. That’s kind of cool. Then you get into storytelling, and this is a whole realm of marketing that has my imagination big time.

Did you see, by any chance, Jonathan Mildenhall’s presentation for Coca?Cola? It’s on YouTube. It’s called, "Liquid and Linked." It’s one of the smartest presentations I’ve seen on social to date.

The basic is this, that Coca?Cola is out to double its revenue by 2020. This is like a small country saying we’re going to double our GNP. We’re going to double our revenue. Now, he starts telling the story. How are we going to double our revenue? We’re basically going to double our revenue through storytelling, storytelling and all of its iterations, and trans?media, participatory, on and on and on and on. The social is at the crux of this whole thing. Wow.

So, you’ve got one of the world’s largest, if not the most successful brand in the world, saying we’re going to double our revenues through social, through storytelling and social.
