Mindmap on Writing Well
Posted by: | CommentsNot all the time do I get the opportunity to create a Mindmap on an audio book but there have been a few special ones that I have. It usually occurs on the 2nd listen since I typically am listening to them while I am driving or walking the dog. Well this one has been listened to more than a couple of times. As a result of the clip art, you can probably guess that the Mindmap has been around a while.
This particular book is a timeless classic and has been one of my favorite ones for many years. On Writing Well: The Classic Guide to Writing Nonfiction, first published in 1976, has sold almost 1.5 million copies to three generations of writers, editors, journalists, teachers and students. I recommend it to any inspiring writer or blogger.
Most of my writing and podcast are geared towards a learning experience for me. It may sound somewhat selfish but I have found that is the best way to immerse myself in a subject. Another of Zinsser’s books, Writing To Learn was the basic structure of how my blog and podcast has developed.
About: William Zinsser, a writer, editor, and teacher, is a fourth-generation New Yorker, born in 1922. His 18 books, which range in subject from music to baseball to American travel, include several widely read books about writing.
P.S. I own the hard copy of both books.

Are these your marketing tactics this year?
Posted by: | Comments“NEW” tactics used this year
- Create a new website. Take outdated website and improve it for better navigation and SEO. Create a storefront on site to let your customers buy products online.
- Test one new advertising venue every month. Track results and when you find one that works, expand it.
- Advertise your business in local newspapers and magazines in your area and include coupons as a tool to drive customers into your store.
- Use your database, start doing a better job collecting names, to aggressively market to your “customers” with a new professional style e-mail campaign driving them to your new website that has a storefront on it.
- Develop a loss leader campaign. This campaign will set to or three items at significantly lower cost than others. This will drive traffic to your store and while customers are there they will purchase other products.
- Develop stronger strategic and referral partners through networking.
- Place large banners, neon signs and other props outside your store to draw attention.
- Run sales promotions on a regular basis. Customers love to purchase items on sale and if you get a reputation for having great sales, it can generate a lot of repeat business.
- Use Social Media, Facebook and Twitter, to blast message to public for free.
I could tell you to call me if this is not working, but you may have already thought of that! If it is working, definitely call me because I would be thoroughly amazed!

I enjoyed talking to Mark and at the end of the Podcast; we went off the subject matter and started a discussion on social media. I respect Mark’s work a great deal. He has created a very loyal following, not only on his blog but also on Twitter. He is one of the few people, when you step away from the early adapters and the giants such as Brogan, Jantsch and Godin, that has done that.
