Mindmap on Writing Well

Not all the time do I get the opportunity to create a Mindmap on an audio book but there have been a few special ones that I have. It usually occurs on the 2nd listen since I typically am listening to them while I am driving or walking the dog. Well this one has been listened to more than a couple of times. As a result of the clip art, you can probably guess that the Mindmap has been around a while.

This particular book is a timeless classic and has been one of my favorite ones for many years. On Writing Well: The Classic Guide to Writing Nonfiction, first published in 1976, has sold almost 1.5 million copies to three generations of writers, editors, journalists, teachers and students. I recommend it to any inspiring writer or blogger.

Most of my writing and podcast are geared towards a learning experience for me. It may sound somewhat selfish but I have found that is the best way to immerse myself in a subject. Another of Zinsser’s books, Writing To Learn was the basic structure of how my blog and podcast has developed.

About: William Zinsser, a writer, editor, and teacher, is a fourth-generation New Yorker, born in 1922. His 18 books, which range in subject from music to baseball to American travel, include several widely read books about writing.

Interview with Author of the Lean Blog, Mark Graban

A few months ago, I did a Podcast with Mark Graban, Senior Fellow at the Lean Enterprise Institute. I enjoyed talking to Mark and at the end of the Podcast; we went off the subject matter and started a discussion on social media. The tape was running and we recorded some additional thoughts on social media. I respect Mark’s work a great deal. He has created a very loyal following, not only on his blog but also on Twitter. I have to admit that I must be a great judge of talent or maybe this podcast pushed Mark over the edge of the other competitors. Ha! Mark won the prestigious iSixSigma 2009 MVP Awards for Best Continuous Process Improvement Tweeter at the iSixSigma Live Conference this year. This podcast was taped in July, 2009 but the information is still solid and even more relevant today. Listen to Mark’s thoughts on Blogging and Tweeting as he surpasses 2,000 “Engaged” followers, this month.

A Lean Experts Guide to Blogging and Twitter

Yesterday, I posted a Podcast that I did with Mark Graban, Senior Fellow at the Lean Enterprise Institute. I enjoyed talking to Mark and at the end of the Podcast; we went off the subject matter and started a discussion on social media. I respect Mark’s work a great deal. He has created a very loyal following, not only on his blog but also on Twitter. He is one of the few people, when you step away from the early adapters and the giants such as Brogan, Jantsch and Godin, that has done that.

Content marketing strategy from start to finish

These guys are talking my language. I believe content marketing is what really works these days and without it it is very hard to differentiate yourself. A quick outline of the book:

Defining the organizational goals.
Determine the informational needs of the buyer.
Determine what you want the customer to do and why this helps the business.
Determine the product and content mix.

A few examples of the product and content mix were:

Print newsletter
E-book
White papers series
Website and blog
Social Media component
Article marketing
News releases

This sounds a little hazy but the book explains “How to put some real teeth in it to this strategy.” If you are not marketing through your created content, this is a great place to start.
