Fort Wayne SCORE Chapter

Posted by: | Comments (0)

The Fort Wayne SCORE Chapter(Service Corps of Retired Executives) will have its monthly meeting at 9:30 AM, June 17th at Indiana Tech, 1600 E. Washington Blvd. I will be presenting an overview of “Duct Tape Marketing” to the Counselors. If you are are interested in becoming a SCORE counselor, you are invited to attend.

SCORE is a great resource for Small Business. It is a very easy way to obtain a mentor and if you are starting a business or have a small business that you would appreciate having a sounding board, I encourage you to contact them. Great resource that is under-utilized in my opinion. Should not every business have a SCORE Counselor?

dtmlogo-web.jpg The call yesterday with Tim Berry, Palo Alto Software(Business and Marketing Plan Pro) is archived for you to listen to – Go to the Coaches Excellence Page.
I enjoyed the call and found it interesting. Tim has a new book coming out this fall and he seems to be backing away from this idea of the elaborate business plan structure. It is not that he does not believe in one, he does, but not in the way you might think. You need to listen!

Several other points:

  1. He says most business people think in terms of PROFITS! But they should be thinking in terms of CASH FLOW! I think anyone that has been through a turnaround can appreciate that comment.
  2. #1 item you must do in developing a business plan is to set the next time you are going to meet to review the results.
  3. The plan is not the document it is the action of the people.
  4. Some good comments about Business Planning for startups.

There is more packed into less than 45 minutes. There was a couple of technical problems at the beginning so fast forward and listen. I will tell you more about his new book!

The Internet is a strange animal or maybe it is just STRANGE TO ME. But trying to make sense out of this, I found a couple important domains that fit into my marketing plans and purchased them. Now, what do links do for me! I am not quite sure but I do think when you type a search and you actually have a website, lets say http://www.ducttapemarketingplan.com/ or maybe http://www.ducttapemarketingsystem.com/ good things might happen.

I even recently purchased http://www.onepagemarketingplan.net/. Which being an Authorized Duct Tape Marketing Coach and a consultant for The One Page Business Plan makes sense for me. But does it everyone. Not at all.

What you might do:

  1. Find your target market
  2. Differentiate
  3. Buy a couple of domains pertaining to 1 and 2.
  4. Go to Go Daddy, their only $10.
  5. Redirect them to the most similar page of your website.
  6. Add some content on that page, to resemble the domains you purchased.
  7. Add the links in a blog or newsletter to get Google to index them?

Simple Marketing Idea?
