<p>One of the most difficult tasks for small business owners, when it comes to marketing, is organization. Until you start to look at marketing as one of the core systems in your business it will always feel like a disjointed and disconnected thing that you know you must do when you can get around to it. And that’s no way to build momentum.</p>
<p>For the purpose of this post I’ve created what I think is the ideal Marketing organization in the graphic below. (This is a smart art graphic that new versions of MS Office can create and save as an image &#8211; click on the graphic to see full size and feel free to borrow for your organization.)</p>

<p>If you can begin to realize that your company’s marketing system does indeed need to perform all of the functions listed above, you can more easily grasp how to create processes that assure you are accurately moving each and every customer logically along the path to becoming a hyper-satisfied referral machine.</p>
<p>And that’s the way to build marketing momentum!</p>
<p><strong>My opinion:</strong></p>
<p>As you know I am a systems guy and a straightforward,easy to understand chart like this is a great strategy and tool. To simple for some, but that I believe is the beauty of it.</p>
<p>I have taken a similar list and just tried using it in my last presentation. It goes a step further or backwards which ever you may decide. But instead of a linear list like this, I have made more of a Mindmap or spoke type diagram. This way I use linking connections and over lay my “web” on top of it.</p>
<p>My categories were formed from this new software package I have called Marketing Plan Pro Powered by someone….</p>
<p>P.S. I think this linear chart is easier to understand and may use it to introduce my circular chart.</p></blockquote>

I enjoyed the call and found it interesting. Tim has a new book coming out this fall and he seems to be backing away from this idea of the elaborate business plan structure. It is not that he does not believe in one, he does, but not in the way you might think. You need to listen!</p>
<p>Several other points: </p>
<ol>
<li>He says most business people think in terms of PROFITS! But they should be thinking in terms of CASH FLOW! I think anyone that has been through a turnaround can appreciate that comment.</li>
<li>#1 item you must do in developing a business plan is to set the next time you are going to meet to review the results.</li>
<li>The plan is not the document it is the action of the people. </li>
<li>Some good comments about Business Planning for startups.</li>
</ol>
<p>There is more packed into less than 45 minutes. There was a couple of technical problems at the beginning so fast forward and listen. I will tell you more about his new book!</p>

Entering its third year, the <a href="https://www.sbsummit.com/">Microsoft Small Business Summit</a>, a nationwide, online event that runs for four days is coming. This year it runs from March 24 through March 27. Summit registrants can participate online from home or office.</p>
<p>John Jantsch has been asked to kick the summit off with a session on small business marketing so I hope that lots of <a href="http://www.business901.com/ducttapemarketing.html">Duct Tape Marketing </a>readers will be joining John online on March 24th at 9am PDT!</p>
<p>The summit is free and <a href="https://www.sbsummit.com/">registration</a> is open now. Make sure to register even if you canâ€™t make the live events as you will get access to the archived recordings months after the event.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Listening to John Jantsch discuss <a href="http://business901.blogspot.com/2008/01/social-media.html">Social Networking </a>for the past 3-months, I have struggled to see the purpose and value of spending time there. John has been quite upfront about it and admits that he is not sure of the â€œExact Whyâ€ either. He has just told me to be there because what he is certain about is that it is going to lead to something.</p>
<p>But now I think I get it! My wife and I were discussing a new vendor the other day for her Home Furnishing store. We may have not been communicating well, the eldest boy in the house, is taking a management class at the present time and hearing our discussion volunteered to get his notes on decision making and show them to us. We decided to include him in the conversation, so we would not have to be lectured on â€œDecision Making.â€ We are adults. We moved on in discussion and he said why donâ€™t you just go to the internet and research them. That is when I got it!</p>
<p>He was not talking about their website, he was not talking about Wall Street, and he was simply talking about asking? He was going to a social community, asking about product and looking for that now ancient word â€œBuzz.â€ Thatâ€™s right Internet â€œBuzz.â€</p>
<p>But it really struck me; go to the Internet for truth, for validation. This is where we build our reputation now. And not just with twenty year olds. You must remember that the fastest growing segment of the gaming industry is the older crowd.</p>
<p>Another item worth note is that in the last week I have 3 well known â€œInternet Guruâ€™sâ€ promoting social networking in their e-zines. I am glad that I am with the guy that I am, <a href="http://www.ducttapemarketing.com/?a_aid=c829e469">John Jantsch</a>, he was doing it months ago and all 3 e-zines looked like it was Johnâ€™s stuff from 3 months ago.</p>
