SocialMediaFortWayne.com will be hosting a Brown Bag Webinar on an aspect of Social Media every Monday at noon. The site, offers visitors a platform to discuss Social Media questions and to follow certain conversations, blog post and join discussion groups that interest them. It is centered at the development of Social Media in Fort Wayne. The e-lunch will be a live forum to interact and receive training on a particular subject.

The first Brown Bag Online lunch on Monday at noon will be on "Why Local Social Media is important". The following weeks, we will be focusing on topics of interest driven by the members request. If you are a member of the site there is no cost. If not, you can still attend if you register but there will be a cost of $25 to attend."

Diving into the social media network – Job seekers

I don’t recommend Social Media for all job searches but it is one method and one place that you should have a presence. It is also intriguing looking at how other people are using other media. It may give you a unique idea to apply to a letter you are sending out or to talk about at your next social event. You are attending social events?

Nevertheless, he’d been building his on-line network for well over 3 years for marketing and branding purposes. Tom lost his job last Thursday. He shared his three-day step-by-step play, into his job hunt:

1. Created a “Hire Tom” web page associated with his blog.
2. Contacted close friends and associates via e-mail
3. LinkedIn was the next stop.
4. Twitter is the next stop for Tom

I just listened to John Jantsch’s podcast with Mari Smith and recommend you listening to it. Mari Smith is a Facebook consultant, what a target market that is since it is has 1 million members, but she does give out some good advice. She talks about how you should have a strategy, build slowly and the proper way to use Facebook and other social media sites.

David Meerman Scott had a good post today…But my question to you is if you are reading this, you are participating in social media, find out why!

Have you noticed there are a bunch of polls and research reports that ask people questions such as “Do you read blogs?” or “Do you use social media?” or “Do you go to video sharing sites?” Often the resulting data show rather small use compared to those who, say, use search engines or email.
