2018 Kata Summit – KataCon4

The fourth annual Kata Summit on February 22-23 is the opportunity for you to connect and learn with the rapidly growing world of Improvement Kata and Coaching Kata practitioners. There’s a great lineup of speakers, exercises, and deep-dive sessions, including Mike Rother. The host of the summit is Lean Frontiers and you can find out more at http://katasummit.com/. The best way to learn about Kata is to surround yourself with Kata Thinkers. KataCon is the best immersive exercise that I can recommend.

I have put together a PDF on how I get started in a Marketing Kata experiment. It serves as an initial overview. It is in its earliest stages and my hope is for people to share and discuss it with any suggestions for improvement. I take no ownership of the material, just please properly attribute the original Toyota Kata work. The Improvement and Coaching Kata is part of Mike Rother’s work originally documented in the book, Toyota Kata: Managing People for Improvement, Adaptiveness and Superior Results. I would encourage you to look at Rother’s other work which is cataloged on this page: Marketing Kata.

If you are putting a team together to go to KataCon4 this might offer you an outline to practice the Kata routines during the conference.

My background on using Kata: I have developed a process of using Kata in my marketing as the basic way I become involved with clients. Unless you have developed a standard practice, marketing is not anything more than an experiment. Kata is a way of doing. A way of developing structured practice routines. We use Kata to develop our Marketing/Sales Experiments (campaigns seem like I am going to war), Digital Marketing Practices, and a host of other marketing efforts. You can learn more by joining the Lean Marketing Lab.
