Steve Blank on the Lean Startup at Ann Arbor

By

I attended Steve Blank’s presentation on Customer Development at the Ann Arbor New Tech Meetup last night. His talk was entertaining and very insightful. Even though I have read his book several times and followed the Lean Startup practically since the beginning, it still was worth the 5 hour round trip to hear the message live. Below is an excerpt of the 2-hour presentation.

The Business Model Generation developed by Alexander Osterwalder teaches you powerful and practical innovation techniques used today by leading companies worldwide. You will learn how to systematically understand, design, and implement a new business model — or analyze and renovate an old one. I personally have been using this template in developing Practitioners in Achieving Expert Status program.

Though not an A3 in the purest sense of the word, it definitely lends itself to many components of the Lean Marketing System. Just not for startups, you could do a lot worse than simply evaluating your sales and marketing strategies by these nine components.

More on Steve’s talk to come.
