Lean is being applied to these sectors to make things Better, Faster, Cheaper but it does not take long to find out to accomplish this that silos need to be broken down.
People will talk a lot about agility but if you understand the concept of Lean Standard Work, you can see how it provides a clearer site from both an inside and outside perspective.
IMHO that is the power of Lean, to provide a basis on understanding std. work and transitioning to continuous improvement. Once you do this, you increase your ability to “see” and a way of emergence/exploration occurs.
When people view Lean as an emergent process, the boundaries are endless, silos disappear. Your ability to “see” gets stronger.
