Startup tries to ensure Traceability on all Fruit

This year-old startup, ApRecs, is trying to qualify for the Chase Mission Main Street Grant. They are on a quest to bring technology to the Agriculture Industry, and specifically to Tree Fruit Growers. They would like to accelerate product development that will put what is developed in Washington State as the standard for the global community. Advancing their technology, seamlessly integrating recordation across the entire food supply chain, allows marketers complete line of sight insuring equal competition of all participants. Please join them to lead the adoption of this technology simplifying the farmers efforts while ensuring there is traceability on all fruit throughout the world.ApRecs

They require 250 votes (vote here) to qualify.  When they receive them their application will be considered for one of twelve (12) $250,000 Small Business Grants. As part of our application they were asked the following questions and could only respond in 500 characters or less (harder than it sounds).

About Our Business; Why We’re Unique

Farmers are tangled in a web of increasingly complex safety and sustainability mandates. ApRecs simplifies global and federal compliance enabling them to respond in a familiar, consistent and timely manner. With boots on the ground, not under a desk-we’re passionate about empowering farmers, enabling producers and assuring markets. We’re the only system of our kind to integrate competitors and leverage advanced OCR in providing seamlessly integrated food safety awareness.

How Do We Support Our Community

We support our industry technically and financial via direct partnerships with GWATA (Technology Alliance), WA Apple Education Foundation, GRAS2P and WA Fieldman and Horticultural Associations.  Our team fully supports growers and processors with in-depth training, orientation and on-going service that enables them to be successful with safely and sustainability compliance. Further, we deliver blogs and podcasts with industry experts offering perspective resources and guidance.

How Will We Use The Grant Dollars

We are a profitable operating entity; grant dollars would be primarily focused to benefit Product Development, Customer Experience and Marketing:

  1. Accelerate product development by scaling our existing architecture and team. Example: Global program compatibility, localization/language, offline.
  2. Vitalize research efforts allowing further integration, improving user experience and further serving our mission
  3. Expertly focused sales and marketing investments that drive revenue

 What Challenges Will We Face

There are challenges navigating a significant overhaul of food safety and sustainability regulation. We welcome this as an opportunity to demonstrate our leadership and effective application of technology. We expect the turbulence to also drive demand. Perhaps the most challenging is the behavioral and philosophical nuances of our customers. We have and will continue to invest in social, market and customer analysis to fully understand the dynamics of the Farmer (nationally and abroad).
